Jeden z głównych przedstawicieli polskiego modernizmu.
Współdziałał z towarzystwem Sztuka (1897).
W 1897
objął katedrę pejzażu w krakowskiej Szkole Sztuk
Pięknych, gdzie wprowadził metodę studiów plenerowych. Wybitny
pedegog. Z "klasy pejzażowej" Jana Stanisławskiego
wyszło wielu znanych pejzażystów.
Jan
Stanisławski malował małe, nastrojowe, syntetyczne pejzaże
o szerokiej plamie barwnej.

Although
over half a century elapsed from the end of the last World War, the problem of
wartime losses in the area of broadly conceived culture, which confronts almost
all European countries, remains open. The political situation which emerged in
Europe after the defeat of Germany and lead to the division of the continent
into two political blocks not only made it impossible to liquidate the effects
of the war in this area, but even to complete the process of pressing claims by
the occupied countries. The issue was considered closed and sporadically
undertaken efforts to recover stolen works of art were in most cases
unsuccessful.
